By adopting a matte material, the design reinforces a subdued, sorrowful mood while ensuring that certain focal elements, like the boat and title, subtly stand out through spot UV enhancements. The balance of negative space and positioning reflects calm melancholy, drawing readers into the story's emotional core at first glance.
